Introducing, White gate Wine Co

Introducing White gate Wine Co
Barossa Valley, SA
by Chad and Gee.

From an iconic region boasting some of the oldest vines in the country, a fresh approach stirs the pot.

Drawing inspiration from Burgundy and Beaujolais, Chad and Gee, with help from good boy Zeus, aim to express the Barossa in a new light with energetic, approachable and balanced wines that break the big bold stigma. Small batches are meticulously tended to by the adept hands of the passionate, progressive young couple who only in their mid-late 20’s have produced outstandingly clean and lively wines in their maiden vintage.

They manage a quant block of 90yr old Grenache and Semillon themselves along with a Riesling block that Gee’s brother owns and a few rows of Syrah and Cabernet from a friend’s vineyard on the valley floor, all managed organically. Having not worked in a commercial winery they have an unbiased view to craft the wines they want to drink, using an intuitive, well-read mind and pure passion for great wine.

Experimenting with early harvests, plenty of whole-bunch and semi-cab-mac ferments, the wines are generous and exciting. The partial intracellular ferments with bunches produce lifted aromatics, juicy fruit and subtle tannins, with the power and structure of Barossa filling out the palate. Balance in the final wines stems from the moment the fruit is picked, achieving perfect fruit concentration at lower beaume retains bright natural acidity that shows in the glass.

We’re seeing a bright future for White Gate Wine Co and we’re excited to be sharing the journey with you.

2020 Cabernet/Syrah - 2020 Syrah
Syrah is 50% whole bunch with the remainder destemmed on top while Cabernet is 100% destemmed. Both separately begin life under a CO2 cover until fermentation kicks off naturally. The cover is then removed and gentle hand plunging occurs daily. Basket-pressed, transferred to neutral oak for 8 months and 30% Syrah is blended with Cabernet before going to bottle unfiltered and unfined.
